Senior Software Engineer (Frontend)
Posit’s mission is to create free and open-source software for data science, scientific research, and technical communication. We do this to enhance the production and consumption of knowledge by everyone, regardless of economic means, and to facilitate collaboration and reproducible research, both of which are critical to the integrity and efficacy of work in science, education, government, and industry. In addition to our open-source products, Posit produces a modular platform of commercial software products that enable teams to adopt R, Python, and other open-source data science software at scale.
As part of this mission, we are building a new SaaS publishing platform called Posit Connect Cloud. Connect Cloud delivers value to individual data scientists and businesses by empowering them to quickly publish and share their work, including custom reports and interactive applications. These artifacts, written in Python, R, Quarto, and more, allow data scientists to tell stories with data and solve real-world problems. Connect Cloud is a cloud-based platform that solves the challenges of putting code into production and securely sharing it without setting up and managing dedicated infrastructure.
About the role:
We are seeking a product-minded front-end developer with expertise in using the React framework to build SaaS applications. In addition to committing code, we are looking for a candidate motivated to engage with our UI/UX designers, product managers, and quality engineers to deliver a thoughtful and highly usable product that delights our users. In this position, you’ll primarily work with TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, React UI framework, and the Redux state management library to build features in Connect Cloud. - Suggesting process improvements to enhance the effectiveness of the team
- Mentoring and collaborating with other engineers
- Supporting our users via support tickets and through our community forums
What you’ll teach:
- Building web applications using modern JavaScript/TypScript design patterns and best practices
- Working with modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks
- Writing clean, modular, accessible, and highly testable code
What you’ll learn:
- An appreciation for data science workflows and some of the tools and methodologies used by data scientists.
- The Posit products and how they empower our customers to do effective data science, along with open-source data science tools like R and Python open-source tools Posit builds to empower data scientists.
About you:
- You have 5+ years of professional software development experience working with TypeScript/JavaScript and the React framework.
- You are collaborative, an effective communicator, action-oriented, and invested in learning.
- You are user-focused and driven by our mission to facilitate data science for everyone.
- You share our commitment to building great software by striving for elegant design, clean and well-tested code, and delightful user experiences.
- You excel at breaking down complex problems into bite-size tasks and driving them to completion.
- You love to learn and help others succeed through code review and other forms of mentorship.
- You are humble, pragmatic, deliberate, and have a keen empathy for your co-workers and users.
